I joined Adeus Studio during the production of Coachtopia’s film to develop one effect: leather strips peeling away from a range of geometries.
The challenge was a flexible system that could generate precise cuts while keeping full control over timing and spacing. Built entirely in SOPs, it projects curves onto the surfaces and uses Boolean cuts to extract each strip directly from the original mesh. Attribute masks with adjustable falloffs and per-strip offsets drive the animation; no simulation is involved.
I created every leather-strip animation seen in the final film and delivered Alembic caches for rendering in Cinema 4D.
